Activities at Peak Healthcare facilities

An active social life helps improve a resident's mental health. Activities give structure to the day for residents, which give them a sense of safety, helps with passing the time, and give a purpose to their life. There is a certain level of safety in knowing what exactly to expect from the entirety of the day. Engagement in social and leisure activities is an indicator of quality of life and well-being in nursing facilities. There are few studies in which nursing home residents with dementia self-reported their experiences in activity engagement. This qualitative study describes types of current activity involvement and barriers to activities as perceived by nursing facility residents with dementia. Our patients look forward to thematic content and the resident council are often involved with the activities planned. A few participants engage in self-directed activities such as walking, visiting other residents and family members, and attending in church services, but planned activities are available to those looking for a more social experience.

At Peak Healthcare, it's important that our patients quality of life is held in high regard. Therapeutic recreation provides the opportunity for new experiences and helps residents find creative ways to continue old interests that might be challenging due to disabilities. Activities that allow residents the opportunity to contribute to society give purpose to life. Residents can raise money for a world-wide cause, join the resident council to improve their nursing home, or create a gift for a family member in their art class. Purpose can also be found in personal satisfaction such as besting a Wii bowling record or appreciating a musical performance.

Each of our Peak Healthcare locations has an activities director who carefully organizes and plans for the facility. A full list of activities is posted in each facility and can be given to you by request.
